Grupo Frontera’s Tiny Desk was published on April 24, 2025. NPR described a group able to bring backyard dance energy into a small room. Up close, the session reveals details that a large production can hide: the pulse of the bajo quinto, the accordion’s replies and the space around Payo Solís’s voice.
The set includes “un x100to,” “Hecha Pa’ Mi,” “Ángel,” “Por Qué Será” and “El Amor de Su Vida.” NPR credits Juan Cantú on accordion, Beto Acosta on bajo quinto and Daniel Uribe on guitar and pedal steel, alongside percussion, bass, keys, trumpet and backing vocals. The lineup shows how many layers can sit inside a seemingly simple song.
Listen first to the conversation between accordion and voice, then return to the percussion. Norteño cumbia and pop support each other in the arrangement. This is an NPR Music session selected by RR, not an RR production.
