In 2023, “Ella Baila Sola” by Eslabón Armado and Peso Pluma became the first Mexican music song to reach the Billboard Hot 100 top five, according to the Recording Academy. The milestone belongs to both credited acts. Any account of the song should keep Eslabón Armado in the foreground, too.

That May, Spotify placed the song at number one on its Top 50 Global and Top 50 US charts. In August, the platform named it the most streamed song of the summer worldwide. Those are different measures from the Hot 100; naming each chart keeps the achievement precise.

Our reading: the iconic moment is bigger than a stream count. A sound with its own audience, creators and history on both sides of the border became impossible to dismiss as a niche. Global recognition amplified that scene. It did not create it.
